The George Rickey Foundation, Inc. is delighted to announce that the Belgian gallery MARUANI MERCIER is now our exclusive representative in Europe.
Although born in the U.S., George Rickey had strong and lasting ties to Europe. His work was first exhibited in Brussels in 1965 at the Palais des Beaux Arts de Bruxelles for the exhibition Lumière, Movement, et Optique. As his international artistic career developed in the 1960s, George Rickey was a regular participant in the Documenta exhibitions of contemporary art, held every five years in Kassel, Germany. In 1968 Rickey opened a second studio in Berlin, forming close relationships with the local art community, which lasted until his death. George Rickey was recently featured in the 2025 exhibition Drawing in Space at MARUANI MERCIER.
Rickey’s work is now included in the permanent collections of over 150 museums worldwide, including the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, Smithsonian Institution, Washington, D.C.; Los Angeles County Museum of Art, California; Museum of Modern Art, New York; Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; National Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C.; Walker Art Center, Minneapolis; National Gallery of Scotland, Edinburgh; Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, Rotterdam and Kunstmuseum Bern, Switzerland, among many others.
